I answer in English. Please include your phone model and OS version, the level number you were on, and — for anything about the leaderboard or your progress — whether you are signed in, and with Google or with Apple.

Frequently asked

How do I play?

Tap a face and five faces move one step along the colour loop — the one you touched and its four neighbours up, down, left and right. Diagonals never move, and at an edge the plus is clipped, so a corner tap changes three faces. Under the board is a goal shape: make it appear anywhere on the grid, in any one colour, and the level is graded.

I made the shape and nothing happened

The shape has to be exactly the shape — every cell of it one colour, and every cell touching its outside edge a different one. A shape sitting inside a bigger blob of its own colour is not the shape, it is a blob that contains one. Getting four cells to agree is only half of it; the other half is getting the ones around them to disagree.

What is par, and how am I graded?

Par is the fewest taps that could possibly finish that board — computed exactly for every level, not guessed. Your grade is how close you came. The band is half of par, rounded up, so the slack scales with the level: par or fewer is S, one band over is A, then B, C, D — and past the D band the level ends there. There is no way to a better grade but a shorter solution.

I cleared the level with a C. Why is the next one still locked?

A B or better opens the next level for free — so an S, an A and a B all move the campaign on, and a C or a D does not. A gated card keeps Try Again on it, free and as many times as you like, and adds two optional keys under it: replay the level with half of the S route revealed one tap at a time, or skip ahead. Both of those play a rewarded video. The grade you earned is still earned, still scored and still on the map either way; the gate is about where the campaign goes next, not whether you won.

What is the “show half” key for?

Chasing a better grade, which is why it is offered on every card below an S and not only on a locked one. It replays the level with half of the shortest route revealed one tap at a time — that is the “half” it means — so an A or a B you would rather have as an S is a thing you can go back for. It plays a rewarded video. Skip level is the other key and it answers a different question — it buys the next board — so it appears only where the gate is actually shut: a C, a D, or a level you ran out of taps on. The last level of the campaign has nothing after it, so nothing to skip to.

Is there an undo?

No, and that is deliberate. A tap changes five faces and spends one of a short clock; a button that takes it back turns every move into a draft. Reset puts the board back to how it was dealt, and Try Again is free after a lost level.

What are the levels with a colour under a red block?

Remove-colour levels, which the campaign starts dealing around level 21. There is no shape to build: the board just has to end up with none of that colour left on it. Nothing has to line up and nothing has to stay apart. The plus, the loop, par and the grades all work exactly as they do everywhere else, and the game teaches it once, on the first one you meet.

What is a chapter, and what is the map?

Ten levels, dealt before your first tap and fixed from then on. The map is the trail of those ten, wearing the crests you have earned, with the one in front of you pulsing. The green key under the trail always opens the newest level you have unlocked; Back hands you the board you were on.

Can I go back and improve an old grade?

Yes, and it is a free bet: a level keeps the best grade it has ever earned, so going back for an S and coming away with a B leaves the B you already had. Your campaign level only ever goes up — a chapter that ends badly costs the chapter and never the climb.

How many levels are there?

1,000, and that is the whole campaign — every one of them measured and sorted by difficulty ahead of time, with the fill-ups at 100, 500 and 1,000 as the milestones to count towards. The board size changes along the way — 4×4, 5×5 and 6×6 interleave — but the faces stay the same size, so your aim never has to be relearned. The hardest levels in the game are 4×4s.

Do I need an account?

No. The whole campaign works signed out, and that is how the game arrives: no account is created for you in the background and nothing is uploaded. Signing in buys exactly two things — your campaign is backed up so it survives the phone, and you take a place on the world leaderboard.

How do I sign in?

Open Settings and tap the account row. The card offers whichever keys your phone can actually use: on iPhone and iPad that is Continue with Google, which hands you out to your browser and brings you back, and Continue with Apple, which is Apple’s own sheet and never leaves the app. On Android it is Google, in a sheet from the system account picker. A provider your build cannot use is left off the card rather than shown and then apologised for, so if the card says sign-in is not available at all, that build shipped without the sign-in component — everything else still works.

I am moving to a new phone. Will I lose my campaign?

Sign in on the old phone first, then on the new one with the same account. The merge only ever adds: every counter takes the larger of the two values and every level keeps the better of its two grades, so signing in on a phone that has already been played can never cost you a level. Signed out, progress lives on the device only and does not travel.

How is the leaderboard ranked?

By levels perfected — how many levels you have graded S — and nothing else. Tied on the same count, whoever got there first ranks higher. It is ranked that way because an S is par or better and par is a fact about the board, so the count cannot be farmed by playing more.

My name is not on the board

You need to be signed in, and you need at least one S: there is no row until there is something to say. The board holds the top 100, so a count below the hundredth does not appear, and it is cached for about ten minutes to keep it cheap to run, so a brand-new record can take that long to appear for everyone else. The board is also only readable while signed in.

Can I change the name that shows on the board?

Not inside the game today — the name is the display name on the Google or Apple account you signed in with. If it is a name you would rather not publish, change it on that account, or play signed out; the campaign is exactly the same without one. If your provider hands back no name, the board shows a stand-in like “Player 8F2C” rather than a blank row.

A name on the board should not be there

Email me with the name and I will take it down.

How do I delete my data?

Open Settings, tap the account row, then Delete my account data. That deletes your saved campaign and your leaderboard row from the server and deletes the account itself — not just your view of it. The campaign on your phone is untouched; delete the app to remove that as well. See the Privacy Policy.

Are there ads or things to buy?

There are no in-app purchases and no subscriptions — every level and every feature is already yours. Ads are two placements: a banner along the bottom of the cards you open (Settings, the guide, the leaderboard, the result cards), and a rewarded video behind the two optional keys on a result card. There is no ad while you are playing a board and no full-screen ad anywhere.

The rewarded video did not play, or did not pay out

A video needs a connection, and it needs to be filled before it can start; if none is available within about fifteen seconds the offer gives up rather than leaving you waiting. Closing a video before the end does not pay out. Try Again is free and unaffected either way.

How do I change my ad privacy choices?

Where the choice applies to you — the EEA, the UK and Switzerland — Google's consent form appears before the first ad is ever requested. There is no entry inside the game to reopen it yet; if you want your answer changed, email me and I will do it, and a way back to the form is coming in an update.

Does it work offline?

The game does. Every level, every grade and every setting works with no connection at all. Only the ads, the leaderboard and the backup need one, and they simply do not appear without it — nothing in the game refuses to open because a request failed.

Which languages does it speak?

English. The game is close to wordless by design — the coach never says a word, the goal is a picture and the grade is one letter.

The motion bothers me, or it is too bright

Settings has Reduce motion, which calms the animations, a light/dark/auto Appearance setting, and switches for sound and vibration.

Where do I read the rules again?

GUIDE, in the header beside MAP. It offers the two lessons — the basic goal and remove-colour — played on a real board under the real rules. Nothing you tap in a lesson counts towards your campaign.

I lost my progress

If you were signed out, progress is saved on the device only, so deleting the app or moving to a new phone does not carry it over — signing in is what makes it travel. If a campaign vanished for another reason, email me with your phone model, your OS version and what happened just before it.

What does it run on?

iPhone and iPad, iOS 15 or later, portrait; and Android phones and tablets, Android 7.0 or later, portrait.
