Frequently asked
Do I need an account?
No. Nox Bible opens straight into Scripture and everything — reading, search, marks, notes, bookmarks, streaks, share cards — works signed out. Signing in does exactly one thing: your library follows you to another device.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Every translation ships inside the app, and so does the passage of the day. Only sync needs a connection; changes made offline are kept and sent when the connection comes back.
Which translations are there?
61 translations in 50 languages, including the Vietnamese 1934 and Kinh Thánh Hiện Đại, the King James Version, the Berean Standard Bible, the World English Bible, the Douay-Rheims and the Vulgate. Change it under You ▸ Translation. Every one of them may be freely redistributed — public domain or an open licence — and each shows its copyright line in the app. Translations that carry the deuterocanonical books are marked.
Can you add my translation?
Email me with its name. I can only include a text whose licence allows it to be redistributed inside an app; many well-known modern translations do not, which is why they are missing.
How do I highlight, write a note or bookmark a verse?
In the Read tab, tap a verse to select it, and tap more verses to add them to the selection. The bar that appears offers the four marker styles, Note, Bookmark, Copy and Share. Everything you make is listed in the Library tab.
How does the streak count a day?
A day counts once you finish a chapter in the Read tab — scroll to its end, stay about fifteen seconds on a chapter too short to scroll, or tap Mark as read under it. A chapter is only counted once a day, however many times you reread it. Days follow your own midnight.
If you miss a single day in a streak, the streak keeper counts it for you, and then needs seven days to recharge. Miss a second day before then and the streak starts again.
What is the passage of the day?
A short passage shown on the Today tab, picked each day from a hand-chosen list of well-known passages and changing at your midnight. It is built into the app, so it works offline, and Open in the Bible takes you to it in the translation you read.
How do I make a share card?
Select verses and tap Share, or use Share on the Today tab. Pick one of four black-and-white layouts, add a line of your own if you like, and share the image through your phone's share sheet, or copy the text instead.
Search does not find a word
Search looks in the translation you are reading. In the Vietnamese translations accents are optional, so tinh yeu finds tình yêu. If a word you expect is missing, check the translation — older ones spell things differently.
How do I change the look?
The You tab has three themes (Day, Night, Parchment), five text sizes and the interface language, which can be any of the 50 languages there is a Bible in.
How do I sign in?
Open the You tab and tap Sign in on the account card. On iPhone and iPad you can continue with Apple or Google; on Android, with Google. Anything you made while signed out is merged into the account, nothing is lost.
What does sync carry?
Your marks, notes, bookmarks, reading log (and so your streak), your settings, and the chapter you were on. It runs when you sign in, when you open or return to the app, and a couple of seconds after each change. If two devices change the same thing, the most recent change wins.
My changes do not appear on my other device
Make sure both are signed in to the same account — the same provider and the same email. Then open the app on the device that made the change, and bring the app to the front on the other one; it syncs when it comes back. You ▸ Sync now forces it, and the card shows when the last sync happened. If it says the sync failed, it will retry on its own once there is a connection.
What happens when I sign out?
The app asks whether to keep your library on this device or remove it from this device. Either way the copy in your account is safe and comes back when you sign in again. If some changes have not synced yet, the app tells you how many before you choose — keep them if you are unsure.
I signed in with a different account and my notes disappeared
A device holds one account's library at a time. When a different account signs in, the previous account's library is removed from the device — it is still in that account — and the new account's library is downloaded. Sign back in to the first account to get it back.
How do I delete my account?
You ▸ account card ▸ Delete account. After you confirm with Google or Apple, everything synced is deleted from the server along with the account itself. The library on that phone is kept, signed out. If you no longer have the app, you can ask by email.
Are there ads or purchases?
No. There are no ads, no in-app purchases, no subscriptions and no analytics.
I moved to a new phone
Sign in on the new phone with the account you used on the old one and your library comes down. If you never signed in, the library lived only on the old phone: sign in there first, then on the new one.
What does it run on?
iPhone and iPad, iOS 15.1 or later; Android phones and tablets, Android 7.0 or later.
